Safety shouldn’t be a lottery. We believe you have the right to know exactly what kind of space you are walking into.
To help you make informed decisions, every business on our map is categorized into one of three levels. Here is how we verify them and what we ask of them.
These businesses have voluntarily joined our directory to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community. They have signed our Core Values Pledge, confirming they agree to our standards of inclusion and safety.
What you need to know:
- The Check: They have self-declared their safety status. We have not conducted an external audit of their procedures.
- Our Policy: We operate on a high-trust model, but we verify through community feedback. Any credible report of discrimination, harassment, or failure to uphold our values may result in the venue being de-listed without warning.
Partners have gone a step further. They haven’t just promised to be safe; they have proven to us that they know how to facilitate a safer environment.
The Requirements:
- Vetting Protocol: They have passed our comprehensive Scenario Vetting Process.
- Procedure Check: We have reviewed their specific answers on how they handle harassment, safety, and conflict resolution to ensure their staff are ready to speak up, not just be bystanders.
- Accountability: They have a named point of contact responsible for LGBTQ+ safety.
- Visibility: You will see the Safer Spaces Window Sticker displayed at their entrance.
Allies are our highest tier of supporters. They meet all the strict safety criteria of a Partner, but have demonstrated a deeper commitment to education and visibility.
The Requirements:
- Full Vetting: They have passed the same rigorous Scenario Vetting Process as our Partners.
- Education: They have taken the time to review our Safer Spaces Training Packs to ensure their team is educated on LGBTQ+ terminology, vulnerability, and active bystander intervention.
- High Visibility: In addition to the window sticker, you will see the Core Values Pledge displayed prominently inside the venue, making it clear to everyone walking in that hate has no home there.
See Something Wrong?
If a venue isn’t living up to its badge, we need to know. Your reports are the most important tool we have to keep this map accurate.
